I personally prefer the Xbox controller over any other controller because of the overall feel of it and button layout,  sure it varies with the different games in-game button layout but regardless it stays the same, left trigger to aim down you sights or throw a grenade, right trigger to shoot then right bumper to reload, pretty simple stuff.

On the other hand you have the mouse and keyboard, in my opinion relatively a lot easier to aim with to a certain degree but the movement/action keys on a keyboard is shockingly awkward to play with even if I calibrate the buttons to do what I want them to do. The typical WASD keys for running around is great and all, but reloading/crouching? Ehh, can’t stand it.

Is it one of those things that people just adapt to due to playing with it extensively or is it just preference? Just another thing to consider in this post is the Real Time Strategy (RTS) genre, I have asked many of my friends on the Xbox whom I play Command and Conquer Kanes Wrath or Red Alert 3/BFME 2 with, all argue that the Xbox is superior to the computer when it comes to RTS, I am honestly dumb-founded that they would say that.

Here’s why:

1) The Keyboard provides so many more ways to group units to make micromanaging way easier.

2) The Keyboard has about 48 keys which can all be configured to actions such as building a specific unit, building a specific building/structure or selecting a specific building/unit so on so fourth. The Xbox has about 6 different buttons to achieve this, what gives?

3) The mouse is so much more easier to navigate around the map/game area than the analog sticks. The typical way to move your camera to a certain location in an instant on computer is to click the spot on the mini-map. The Xbox equivalent? Hold down a button to bring up the mini-map, then navigate to the location with the analog sticks then finally press the action button.

Maybe it’s just me or maybe it’s not, either way, I would love to here how other people prefer to play their FPS or RTS games, so comment I guess.

Well, many gamers out there would have certainly played a Pokemon game or maybe a Kingdom Hearts game or definitely some other variation of an RPG Genre or MMO and most will notice that, whilst playing these games you manage to rack up massive amounts of Gameplay time, generally called “hours”.

I personally have clocked over 300 hours of Pokemon (probably more) and almost, if not, 600 hours on a single Monster Hunter game. So I am curious, what games keep you going and why? To me, most First Person Shooters (if not all) I only continue to play because of the ability to connect and play with your other friends or to compete with other players all around the world for just a small price. I’m sure some readers will argue that the price for some online games are expensive and I can agree with most on that point, but in reality, you get what you pay for.

I’m a big fan of Real Time Strategy games especially Warcraft 3 :TFT, Age of Empires 3 and LOTR BFME 2, all three of these games are exceptionally good in their own ways and each are unique, but for me, it’s all about the Online. Is it because of the Genre of the game? Or is it because of the era games have reached?

However, quite a few games that don’t have Online can still be played for extensive hours. Fallout 3, Assassins Creed, Bioshock and Star Wars: KOTOR are all perfectly good examples in my opinion, I would put Oblivion on that terribly small list, but I cannot stand the game. The thing that each of these games have in common is simple, Exploration, customization and in-depth story telling. Each of the games listed there put the player in the world and lets them run free, it lets them become part of a world and be able to say “That is my character, it’s how I wanted it and I can do what I want (to a certain degree) in the world I am playing in.”

From what I have said, I haven’t come to a conclusion of what games rule the roost when it comes to lengthy gaming times, I have simply put down my thoughts on a small matter. The games listed in this post I have all played and enjoyed to a certain degree, some I like more then others but they are all great games. Also, obviously (well I hope so) the games I spoke about aren’t the only games I have played relating to the Genre etc, they are just small examples of what I was talking about.

So the question I would like to ask you is: “What games do you or have you played for many hours and why?”

I will only maintain this Blog if I have readers and people who are willing to read what I have to say, if I don’t have any, whats the point in writing to no one but myself, unless of course I am extremely lonely. I will try my best to keep it interesting and I recommend that any person who reads this Blog should check for updates on a weekly basis, who knows what I will write about.
